Public Power Week

Each year, more than 2,000 community-owned utilities, like Algoma Utilities, across the nation observe Public Power Week – a celebration of these not-for-profit electric utilities that proudly serve the electric power needs of about 40 million Americans – or almost 15 percent of electricity consumers.

Every public power system is different due to its community’s population, geography and climate, natural resources, economic and social resources and challenges, and local government structure and goals. However, all public power systems have in common their purpose: to provide adequate, reliable, not-for-profit electricity at a reasonable price with proper protection of the environment.

Click here for details on Public Power Week 2009 that was held at Algoma Utilities the week of October 5th through the 9th.

Door Prizes were awarded through Commitment to Community energy conservation funds. The prizes are part of the Algoma Utilities celebration of Public Power Week to promote the “power of community” spirit.

General Manager, Richard Riederer presented the electric lawn mower to Bertha Stoller. Winners of the energy efficient LED holiday lights and CFL bulbs were: Judy Wiese, Donald Kostichka, Joseph Walag, Russ Sibilsky, Mary Ross, Dave Baumgartel, John Jorgenson, Debbie Starr, Tony Bouche, Mary Grubbs, Ruth Rodrian and Elizabeth Brann.
