Did You Know?

The Public Service Commission allows utilities to collect deposits (similar to a security deposit), from customers for a variety of reasons:

  • Disconnection
  • 80 days or more past due during the winter moratorium
  • Failure to pay a deferred payment plan
  • Considered a new customer and left an outstanding bill at a Wisconsin utility
  • Considered a new customer and became 60 days or more past due in the first eight months of service
  • Filed bankruptcy
Some exclusions may apply.

The amount of the deposit can vary depending on the reason for the deposit request. For instance, if the reason was due to a disconnection, the deposit request can be equal to your two highest consecutive month’s bills in the preceding 12 months. For example if your two highest consecutive bills equal $ 300 you would have to make arrangements to pay a deposit of $ 300 in addition to paying your regular monthly bills.

If the deposit request was due to being 80 days or more past due during the winter moratorium, the deposit request can be equal to the four highest consecutive month’s bills in the preceding 12 months. An example for this situation would be if your four highest consecutive bills equal $ 500 you would have to make arrangements to pay a deposit of $ 500 in addition to paying your regular monthly bills.

Please contact the utility office at 920-487-5556 if you receive a disconnection notice or if your account is past due to arrange a payment plan in order to avoid a deposit request.
