Check out incentives that save money & electricity

Tree Power Program

Did you know that trees can save you energy and money?

Properly planted around your home, shade trees can lower your cooling costs in summer. Trees that shade the south or west side of the building can reduce air conditioning costs in summer. When the leaves fall in the winter, the bare trees allow warm sunlight to reach your home.

We want to help more people in our community enjoy the benefits of trees. For a limited time, we’re offering a cash rebate equal to 50% of the purchase price (up to $60 per tree) when you buy and plant deciduous trees. Certain restrictions apply.

The Tree Power! program is in effect from April 14, 2010 to October 31, 2010. Participants must turn in a receipt showing cost of the tree(s). Trees must be deciduous and be planted on the south or west side of your home.

For complete details and application, view and/or download the Tree Power Incentive Program Application.

AC Tune-Up Program

Did you know that your central air conditioner may lose up to 5% of its original efficiency every year? That can increase your utility bills, shorten the life of your equipment and reduce the comfort level in your home.

A simple tune-up and inspection of your central air conditioner can keep it running efficiently and save you money. For a limited time, we’re offering up to $35 cash back to customers who have their central A/C units tuned up by a professional service technician.

View and/or download the Central AC Tune-Up Incentive Application.

The central air tune-up program is in effect from May 1 to August 1, 2010. Participants must turn in a receipt showing service contractor was paid before the bill credit is given.

Responsible Appliance Recycling Program

If you’re stuck with older, less efficient appliances, they’re costing you extra money on your utility bills. Maybe it’s time to replace those old refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners or dehumidifiers with newer models.

Algoma Utilities and our power supplier, WPPI Energy, are now partners in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) Program. The goal of our appliance recycling program is to promote energy conservation by reducing consumption and at the same time, reduce emissions of ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases through the collection and proper disposal of refrigerated appliances.

We’ll pay you a cash reward per customer when you turn in old refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners or dehumidifiers. Room air conditioners and dehumidifiers are only picked up in conjunction with a qualifying fridge or freezer. All units must be in working order.

The appliances you turn in will be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. Useful parts will be recycled and dangerous PCBs and ozone-damaging CFCs will be recovered.

Best of all, when you replace your old appliances with newer and more energy-efficient models, you’ll save money month after month on your utility bills.

To schedule a pick up of appliances, please call 1-800-922-3744. Learn more about our Responsible Appliance Recycling Program.
