Community Benefits

We invest more than meters, poles and wires in the community. Our civic pride and commitment to excellent customer service extends to making Algoma a better place to live and work.

Since 1904, Algoma Utilities has seen our community grow to become what it is today. We’re proud to have supplied the electric power that has helped to make this growth possible.

We’re equally proud that the volunteer efforts of our employees and the utility have contributed to the development, growth and well-being of our great community. The cornerstone of a not-for-profit, municipally owned and operated utility is “local people working together to meet local needs.” And that’s just where the benefits to the community start.

Contributions

We are pleased to support a number of community organizations. Each year, the utility selects a group (or groups) to make worthy contributions that will help meet a need in the community.
In 2019, we made contributions to the following organizations:

  • Algoma Public Library for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program.
  • Algoma Chamber Visitor Center for the signage and native garden transition.
  • Violence Intervention Project for enhanced resources for the Prevention Education Program .

WPPI Energy also offers $ 1,000 to be used for local economic development programs. In 2019 the grants were awarded to the Algoma Parks and Recreation Department for the kayak dock platform section.
