Water System Maintenance

Hydrant flushing, valve turning and performing routine water main maintenance are important procedures when it comes to a community’s safety.  Maintenance will be performed during the months of September and October, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. It is necessary to flush the hydrants in order to test that there is adequate water flow and pressure.  Flushing is also done to remove any sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution system.

As a result of the flushing, customers may notice discoloration of the water.  If this happens, run the cold water for a few minutes until the water runs clear.  Customers should not be alarmed; the water is safe for cooking and consumption.

Customers are asked to refrain from washing white or light-colored fabrics during the hours of maintenance in your area, to avoid staining on certain fabrics.  The Utility would like to thank you for your help in improving the operation of the water distribution system.  If you have any questions concerning this procedure please call Algoma Utilities at (920) 487-5556.
